Omaha poker game, also known as Omaha Hi (High), is a game derived from Texas Hold’em, and is becoming very popular among players.
The popularity this game earned is based on the TV shows presenting the tops players of the world, and because this ia the most common form of poker at world wide casinos.
In Omaha High each player starts with 4 hole cards (instead of 2 as in Texas Hold’em). To these cards are added three rounds of community cards, dealt face up, for every player to use, just like in Texas Hold’em (we will have a total of 5 community cards). Each round of cards dealt brings a round of betting as well. The best 5 card hand formed from any 2 hole cards and 3 community cards wins. Winning hands must be formed from exactly that combination of cards: 2 hole cards and 3 community cards; therefore, if a player has three of a kind in his hand (as hole cards), only two of them can be taken into consideration for the poker hand. As many players tend to forget this they make bets on hands they can’t use. For beginners we suggest checking the poker hand rankings first to learn which are the best poker hands in order.
Each hand starts with a small blind and big blind and a round of betting (posted clock wise). The betting rules vary depending whether the game is Limit, Pot Limit or No Limit. See here a full step by step guide for playing Omaha poker.
